Every 2 years, ACJC would hold a food and fun fair known as the Fun-O-Rama. This year was it's 20th.
The Methodist Church in Singapore takes a strong stand against any form of gambling. Hence, Methodist schools such as ACS, MGS and ACJC do not accept a single cent from the Totaliser Board, since the source is from gaming activity. As a consequence, the schools have to raise their own funds. ACJC's Fun-O-Rama is one such fundraising activity, as is the Methodist Walk.
I was in ACJC in 1984-1985 and I have only pleasant recollection of my years there. I spent my first 3 months in NJC based on an aggregate of 9 points, but did not fit into the culture there at all. Everyone around me was so studious, and all work and no play made me a dull boy. And so when I got my O-level results, I decided to go to switch to ACJC, even with an improved aggregate of 7 points. Just picture this contrast: In NJC, students would be seen studying in the canteen; in ACJC, students would be seen reading magazines in the library.
Back then, ACJC was in the middle-tier. The cut-off point was 16, but ACS boys with 20 points would be able to get in upon appeal. I understand from my ex-classmate who is now teaching in ACJC that the cut-off point is now 6!!!
Anyway, like I mentioned earlier, I remember my days in ACJC with great fondness. Three times a week, we would play soccer with a plastic ball at the basketball court just across Dover Road. We guys would sit around the canteen and look out for the "top tenners" -- ie. the top ten prettiest girls in the school. During my year, the best looking girl was a prefect from MGS, with this girl from Fairfield coming in a very close second :-)

I went from ACS (Barker) to CJC (nearer home). My brother and I were the only ACS boys there among all the others from the "saints" schools. I thought I would get beaten up the first day by the SJI boys, but nothing happened. All went well. :)
