Let's get back to the topic of the "counsel of the ungodly".
If a saying gives you a good opinion of God and causes your faith to rise, then by all means embrace it. But if a saying gives you a poor opinion of God, then reject it!
When something not so pleasant happens, one often-quoted phrase that is being used to cheer us up is "When God closes a door, He opens a window".
But is that really the case? First and foremost, is it really God that closes the door? And even if that "door" gets closed for some reason, does God only open a "window"?
A door is big enough for a person to walk through, but a window is not. So it sure sounds like we are getting shortchanged by God, isn't it?
I am reminded of a song that we sang in the army, which goes like this..
They say that in the Army, the pay is mighty fine
They give you hundred dollars, they take back ninety-nine
Even in the above scenario, at least one was still better off by 1 dollar!
But in the case of the closed door and opened window scenario, one is actually worse off!
Does it give you a good opinion of God? If not, then it is alas the "counsel of the ungodly", even though the word "God" is mentioned in it.
If anything at all, the saying should read, "Should a window be closed, God opens to us a door."
Now that should be our perpective of our Abba Father. A Father who wants to bless and prosper us exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or imagine (Eph 3:20). A Father who did not withhold His only Son from us, but freely gives us all things (Rom 8:32). A Father who lavishly and unashamedly sprints to embrace and kiss us repeatedly (Luke 15:20).
Which brings me to the latest testimony of the LORD's goodness.
Being unable to serve in my own church has made me feel like a labourer without a harvestfield. It was like a window that has been shut in my face.
But God has better plans for me -- to prosper me and to give me a future and a hope (Jer 29:11) -- and has just opened a huge door before me!
When I last checked, more than 700 persons have viewed the YouTube video about blessing others with a copy of "Destined to Reign". I have now given out 35 books altogether, including to brothers and sisters from Australia, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, Panama and USA!
The Holy Spirit is doing a mighty work amongst God's people in the last days, and I am humbled to be considered worthy enough to be used as His instrument to propagate the grace message not only to those within my oikos, but now even to those without.
Anyway, the seeds sown in terms of investing the book in the lives of others has already started to reap a harvest. I have just received an email from one of the pastors of NCC. He saw the video and has invited me out for lunch... and to think that I am not even one of the 15,000 (yet anyways) :-)
Even though a window has been shut, God has opened a huge door before me, and I eagerly anticipate what He has in store for me.
Life is certainly worth the living, especially when we have a good opinion of our Abba Father Daddy God. Amen?
