Regular readers of my blog will know that the church of my forefathers is Paya Lebar Methodist Church ("PLMC" or simply "PL"). My daughter and son-in-law continue to attend PL, and I do keep in touch with quite a number of my ex-churchmates.
Some of them still ask me when this "prodigal" will return, but I tell them that have already grown deep roots in New Creation Church ("NewCre").
Moreover, the current Pastor-in-Charge of PL (let's call him K) is against Ps Prince and the grace gospel, so I will definitely not step foot back there with him still at the helm, thank you very much.
But do you know that besides yours truly being a "connection" between PL and NewCre, there is another more illustrious gentleman? Read on!

My dad, the late Dr Michael Loh was a long-standing leader of PL and was its LCEC Chairman, Layleader, and PPRSC Chairman at various stages of his life.
God also raised him to Chair not one, but two of PL's building projects.
(1) The Covenant Centre project in the mid-1980s, which involved converting the then-PLMGS into premises to house community outreach initiatives such as the Covenant Kindergarten as well as the Covenant Family Service Centre;

(2) The Church (Re-) Building project in the mid-1990s, which involved, tearing down the entire old sanctuary and rebuilding a brand new one from scratch.

I was clearing out the study and came across various memorabilia, which I will be passing to PL's Archivist in the not too distant future.

But the purpose of my post today is to highlight a gentleman by the name of Mr Pang Hoe Sang, the owner of Hexacon Construction Pte Ltd ("Hexacon").
Hexacon was the main contractor for PL's (re-) building project. That's him holding a shovel at PL's topping-up service on 1 November 1997. My dad is the one pouring the cement haha.

Mr Pang shared with PL's leadership that he was given a vision by the Lord that he would one day be involved in the building of the largest church in Singapore. At the time of his vision, the largest church (which I will only refer to as "M6") claimed to have more than 33,000 members.
Yes, that same M6 megachurch mentioned in yesterday's post about Chalk and Cheese ;-)
But in the years following Mr Pang's vision, M6's senior pastor got involved in a widely-publicised financial scandal, and its membership fell by more than 75% as a result.
Meanwhile, NewCre's membership grew exponentially, so God did cause Mr Pang's vision to come to pass, but not in the way he had first imagined!
Here is a photo of NewCre's ground-breaking ceremony in 2008, with Mr Pang on the extreme right.

Mr Pang attended my dad's 75th birthday on 23 August 2010. That's the 3 of us in the photo below.
