Rom 8:11 - The Trinity is mentioned twice

Tuesday, 6th March 2007

Dear Theophili and Theophilae

Just 2 days ago, Pastor B was preaching and he singled out the verse Rom 8: 11 during his sermon, which reads:
And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.

The point that Pastor B was trying to make is that the Holy Spirit which resurrected our Lord Jesus is the same Spirit that is living in us today. Hence, we have been empowered to do great things for the LORD.

When the verse was flashed on the screen, it brought to mind a sermon by Pastor Prince entitled "The Holy Spirit that zoe-fies the Body". In that sermon, Pastor Prince also singled out Rom 8:11 (which goes to show "great minds think alike").

Pastor Prince said what makes this verse so significant is the fact that it is the only verse in the Bible that mentions all three persons in the Trinity! (and not just once, but twice!)

Let's look again at Rom 8:11:
And if the Spirit [God the Holy Spirit] of Him [God the Father] who raised Jesus [God the Son] from the dead is living in you, He [God the Father] who raised Christ [God the Son] from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit [God the Holy Spirit] , who lives in you.

Notice that God the Father is mentioned twice, God the Son is mentioned twice, and God the Holy Spirit is also mentioned twice. All Three Persons in the Godhead were involved in the greatest event ever to take place in the history of mankind.

Because Christ was raised from the dead, the last enemy of man was destroyed, as Paul describes in 1 Cor 15:25-26 "For He must reign until He has put all his enemies under His feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death." and also in 1 Cor 15:55, "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting."

So what does this all mean? This means that we can live victorious lives right here and now on earth while still in our earthly mortal bodies because the Holy Spirit indwells in us.

As recorded in Zech 4:6-7, it is not by might, nor by power, but by His Spirit that the mighty mountain (and other obstacles placed there by the evil one) shall be removed.

The sub-theme for 2007 is Empower: Growing Deeper with God. Let us indeed be empowered, and grow deeper in our relationship with all three persons of the Godhead. Amen?
