Achtung Baby!

Monday, 28th January 2008

Just the other day, I borrowed 2 books from my church library: one on Church History and the other on Christian Denominations.

It is interesting to read that the terms "Christians", "Lutherans" and even "Methodists" started off as labels of derision! In Antioch, the disciples of Jesus were first given the name Christianos (or followers of Christ) by the non-believers in their midst. Followers of Luther were labelled "Lutherans" by those who remained loyal to the Roman Catholic establishment. And the Anglican church mocked the followers of John Wesley for being too methodical, hence the term "method"-ists.

But praise the Lord because he causes good to come out of what is meant for harm. Nowadays, Christians, Lutherans and Methodists around the world are more than happy to be identified as such.

So too, should those of us who have been labelled as heretic or cultic as a result of operating totally under grace.

When my blog was first described as having "severely disturbing" content sometime last year and that particular email was circulated to nearly 100 other persons, I was deeply hurt. Now, it is worn as a badge of honour, and it even helps trigger the curiosity of those who are searching.

Which brings me to #34 in my XT collection.

34. WARNING! (Jan 2008)
14th design to be printed at Spectrum

Just collected this from Choon Hong yesterday. Unlike the other tshirts that were printed on cotton, this one is on dry-fit. Will be wearing it at the next ACSJ Fathers' Prayer Group meeting in honour of the one who inspired me to come up with this design :-)

Oh, just in case you are wondering about the title of today's blog entry, achtung means caution or warning in German. Achtung Baby! was the title of one of the albums of secular Irish rock band U2.
